About the Training

Antisemitism and racism are deeply interwoven into history, the present, and society – as ideological systems as well as everyday experiences. They also shape our institutions, including museums – often invisibly, yet with far-reaching consequences. How can we, as educators and museum professionals, engage with these issues responsibly?

At a time of increasing antisemitic and racist incidents in Germany and across Europe, it is all the more urgent to strengthen spaces of cultural education as places of active engagement against antisemitism, racism, and discrimination. Art museums bear a particular responsibility in this regard: they are spaces of representation, remembrance, and reflection – and at the same time, they are obliged to critically examine and further develop their own histories and educational practices.

With the training AUGEN AUF: Handeln gegen Antisemitismus im Kunstmuseum (EYES OPEN: Acting Against Antisemitism in Art Museums), Kunsthaus Dahlem and the Georg Kolbe Museum invite participants to jointly develop new perspectives for discrimination-critical cultural education and museum mediation. Through thematic inputs, hands-on workshops, and interdisciplinary exchange, the programme explores strategies for sensitively and critically reflecting on and transforming language, imagery, and narratives. The training provides a space for collegial exchange, in-depth learning, and solidarity in action – with the aim of sustainably strengthening antisemitism-critical and racism-aware educational work in museums.
