Artistic projects and interventions against anti-Semitism

From November 1 to December 31, 2024, Kunsthaus Dahlem is hosting a series of events entitled “Searching for Traces towards the Present”, which is funded by the Action Fund to Support Projects against Anti-Semitism.
It creates space for an intensive examination of Jewish heritage, intergenerational trauma and Anti-Semitism. At a time when the historical and cultural Jewish heritage often threatens to disappear from the public consciousness, the project aims to open up new perspectives and make the connection between past and present tangible. “Searching for Traces towards the Present” relies on artistic interventions and an inclusive program that makes Jewish life in Germany visible and focuses on the multi-layered traces of its cultural heritage.

The relations of material and non-material heritage
The project brings together (inter)national Jewish artists who focus on Jewish life and its immaterial culture. Their works and interventions reflect the rich and diverse Jewish culture, which is often based on invisible and intangible spirituality and is to be made tangible through readings, tours and pop-up exhibitions. The artistic contributions deal primarily with intergenerational trauma and the passing on of cultural memory, and transfer this sensitive topic to the present day.

The invited artists include Jessica Ostrowicz (London/UK), Joseph Sassoon Semah (Amsterdam/NL) and Anna Schapiro (Berlin/G). The artistic workshops and interventions will be accompanied by tours and talks by curators Dorit Elkanati and Avi Feldman.
