DISSOLVE, SHIFT, UNLEASH: Your Message on a Poster – Inclusive workshop | Sunday programme
Inclusive workshop for people aged 6 and up, as well as families, teenagers and adults – with or without disabilities, focusing on the sensory perception of artworks and the creation of posters on the theme of freedom using printmaking and stencil techniques, along with abstract painting, drawing, and collage processes, and do-it-yourself methods.
About the workshop
The former Yugoslavia under Tito was more open than other socialist states – artists could absorb Western influences, travel, and experiment. Yet this freedom had clear limits: anyone who questioned the system or Tito himself risked censorship, a ban on working, or worse.
In the workshop, we explore the exhibition When Politics Strategised Aesthetics – Works from the National Museum of Modern Art Zagreb 1945–1960 through various sensory experiences and inclusive materials, and discover how artists in postwar former Yugoslavia sought their own voices amid political pressure and artistic freedom.
Their works are not neutral images – they are stances, acts of resistance and dreams. Together, we will ask what this art still has to say to us today.
Afterward, we will put our own ideas on paper: using printmaking and stencil techniques, along with abstract painting, drawing, and collage processes, and do-it-yourself methods, we will create our own posters.
Freedom is not a given – it must be conceived, defended, and reclaimed time and again. That is exactly what we do here: together, creatively and with our own stance.
