The making of people – Antonio Peña
About the conversation
How does a contemporary museum in Oaxaca, Mexico, work? What stories does it tell, and which perspectives does it make room for? At an informal evening with snacks and wine, Antonio Peña, Head of Museography at MACCO (Museo de Arte Contemporáneo y de las Culturas Oaxaqueñas), will share insights into Oaxaca’s museum and cultural landscape and speak about his own experiences in cultural work.
Antonio Peña is an Afro-Indigenous artist and cultural manager from Oaxaca. He is currently an IFA fellow at Kunsthaus Dahlem, where he is also presenting his cabinet exhibition The making of people. His artistic practice engages with questions of identity, representation and belonging.
Together with the audience, we will exchange ideas about collections, exhibitions and ways of engaging audiences, and discuss the role museums play in addressing cultural diversity and history.
Moderated by Gloria Freiler (Academic Trainee, Kunsthaus Dahlem)
