    LUNCH TALKS: Designing with Roots: Craft and Innovation in Latin America – with Eduardo Barroso Neto (EN)

    In the LUNCH TALKS series, international artists, curators and other cultural professionals talk about their work, current challenges, and unconventional approaches to their exhibition and educational practice. After each talk, all guests are invited to a typical snacks and drinks from the respective countries presented.

    About the Event

    Eduardo Barroso Neto (Designer and Regional Advisor – ICSID; Regional Advisor – UNESCO, Florianopolis, Brazil) uses selected examples from Brazil and other Latin American countries to show how artistic and craft projects can be motors and driving factors for development, creative processes and innovation.

    The language of the event is English*.

    Participants – Biographies

    Eduardo Barroso Neto is an industrial designer and international consultant and is considered one of the most influential figures in strategic design, craftsmanship and the creative economy in Latin America. Barroso has devoted over four decades to advancing public policies, territorial projects, and cultural identity strategies through design. He has directed key institutions such as the Brazilian Design Laboratory (LBDI) and the Design Centre of Ceará, collaborated with SEBRAE and UNESCO, and is currently Regional Director for Latin America at the World Crafts Council. Among his most important initiatives is the creation of the TOP 100 Brazilian Handicrafts Award. He has also led successful applications for several Brazilian cities to join UNESCO’s Creative Cities Network.

    Greta de León, originally from Mexico City, is a cultural diplomat, curator and researcher with a background in art history and museology. As Executive Director of The Americas Research Network (ARENET), based in Washington, D.C. and Mexico City, she initiates and leads interdisciplinary research projects, promotes cross-cultural collaborations, and develops programmes that connect scholarship, social justice, and the arts across the Americas. Through curatorial activism and cultural diplomacy, she advocates for equitable representation and strengthens indigenous perspectives, linguistic diversity, and contemporary artistic expression.
