About the Workshop

Experience the essence of Dabke – a traditional Arabic folk dance from the Levant – in a captivating two-hour journey of dance and music that unites people of all backgrounds and brings this vibrant tradition of the Middle East to life. Led by dancer and choreographer Medhat Aldabaal and percussionist Ali Hasan, you will immerse yourself in the rhythmic energy of Dabke, accompanied by live percussion.

Medhat Aldabaal, Ali Hasan – Biographies

Medhat Aldaabal is a Syrian dancer living in Berlin. He studied dance at the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts in Damascus and has performed with various dance groups across the Arab region. Since 2015, he has participated in contemporary dance workshops, taught classes, and developed his own works, in which he seeks to connect his cultural background with his artistic practice. Aldaabal explores the relationship between movement, memory, and sound to create comprehensive and innovative performances. He has collaborated with Sasha Waltz & Guests, Nir De Volff, and many other artists.

Ali Hasan is a Berlin-based musician, percussionist, and educator with roots in Syria. He is known for his evocative rhythms and performs solo or with groups such as the Pulsar Collective and the Dabke Community Dance by Sasha Waltz & Guests. As a physical therapist certified by the Akademie der Gesundheit Berlin/Brandenburg e.V., Ali Hasan combines his physiotherapy expertise with his artistic practice. Hasan is well known in the press throughout Europe and internationally. He gives numerous performances at home and abroad and was a guest lecturer at the Berlin University of the Arts in the winter of 2024/2025.
