LUNCH TALKS: Rethinking Curatorial and Museum Approaches: Current Challenges – with Izaira López Sánchez, Philine Pahnke, Josina Dehn (EN)

In the LUNCH TALKS series, international artists, curators and other cultural professionals talk about their work, current challenges, and unconventional approaches to their exhibition and educational practice. After each talk, all guests are invited to a typical snacks and drinks from the respective countries presented.

About the Event
Emerging curators and academics will discuss how curatorial forms of mediation can be rethought and reconceptualised. Izaira López Sánchez from the indigenous community of ña’a Ñuu Savi will present examples of museum practice in Mexico.

Participants – Biographies
Izaira López Sánchez is a ña’a Ñuu Savi (woman from the People of the Rain) and speaks Tu’un Savi (Language of the Rain). She holds a degree in International Relations from the Universidad del Mar in Oaxaca, Mexico. Her work focuses on the revitalization of the Mixtec language. As the founder of the project Tu’un Vii – Palabras Bonitas (“Beautiful Words”), she creates and disseminates content in Tu’un Savi on digital platforms to raise awareness among young people about indigenous languages. Her research also deals with the repatriation of cultural objects of indigenous communities to their places of origin. For her work, Izaira López Sánchez was awarded, among others, the Premio Estatal de la Juventud 2021 (State Youth Award of Oaxaca). Sánchez currently serves as Project Coordinator at The Americas Research Network (ARENET).
Philine Pahnke studied Museology and Material Culture, History, and Public History in Würzburg and Berlin. She came to art and art history through practical curatorial work. Her research focuses on the complex system of art and culture during the Nazi era, as well as on personal and structural continuities in the early years of the Federal Republic of Germany. In her curatorial practice, her main emphasis is on the 20th century as well as on contemporary positions. Since November 2023, she has been working as an Academic Trainee at Kunsthaus Dahlem, focusing on exhibitions and research.
Josina Dehn studied Art Studies and Cultural Studies at the University of Bremen and Art History at the University of Münster. Since March 2025, she has been a doctoral candidate and Junior Fellow at the Research Training Group funded by the DFG, “Access to Cultural Goods in Digital Change”, at the University of Münster. Her research focuses on power structures in cultural institutions in both analog and digital spaces. She is particularly interested in the continuation of colonial structures in the digital sphere as well as the practices of handling data generated through the numerous digitization processes within cultural institutions. Since March 2025, she has also been a Research Associate at the Stadtmuseum Münster (Municipal Museum of Münster).
