Part of the festival programme 10 YEARS – 10 DAYS! to mark the 10th anniversary of Kunsthaus Dahlem

    About the Workshop

Some call it “visual poetry”, others refer to it as “graphic upcycling”. In this workshop with Michele Cavaliere, you will explore the interaction between text, interpretation, and image through a creative exercise developed by the illustrator in the late 1990s. Take a page from any book, choose one word, frame it, and it becomes the illustration’s title, and paint the surrounding area with transparent colours. Bookpages are, in fact, a dynamic example of upcycling in literature and illustration, which can be applied to all kind of book or text. This format attracts the curiosity of children, adults, and older people and can be used with any kind of text – be it literature, advertising, manuals, or something else.
