SOFT. HARD. FLUFFY. COLD. What Materials Can Tell Us – Inclusive workshop | Sunday programme
Inclusive workshop for families, adults, young people and children aged 6 and up – with and without disabilities – combining sensory encounters with artworks and hands-on experimentation with fabric, wool and metal.
The workshop is intended for English- and German-speaking visitors.
About the workshop
Materials speak to us not through words, but through textures, temperatures and surfaces. Sometimes soft like wool, sometimes cool like stone or sharp like metal, they carry memories and emotions within them.
Two artists currently exhibiting at Kunsthaus Dahlem show how differently materials can be given a voice. Melanie Ender leaves the traces of her engagement with metal visible so that visitors can recognise its character and “will”. Gulnur Mukazhanova layers wool and silk on top of one another until they become a tangible expression of memory and origin.
Inspired by the works of Melanie Ender and Gulnur Mukazhanova, we will rub, felt, layer and bend metal, wool and fabric together. Along the way, we will explore with all our senses the stories and secrets that materials hold.
In this workshop, we engage with the exhibitions Jetztzeit – Layers of the Present by Gulnur Mukazhanova and almost in between by Melanie Ender through various sensory experiences and inclusive materials.
