    About the Project

Dokumentale is a Berlin festival for documentary formats that promotes films, new media, non-fiction books and podcasts. It creates an interdisciplinary platform for exchange between filmmakers, journalists, authors, artists, scientists and the audience.

Two evenings of Dokumentale’25 at Kunsthaus Dahlem – on 18 and 19 June – will take place in the unique D’Lounge format, which combines thought-provoking documentaries with music, extraordinary locations, and a club atmosphere. Dokumentale presents carefully curated films in unusual spaces – from nightclubs to urban off-locations – accompanied by live DJ sets, great food, and the magic of the unexpected. Documentaries reflect our reality, and at D’Lounge, we can face it together. Events where film, music, and venues merge into one immersive experience. Intense, surprising, and real.

Three women take matters into their own hands when establishing their own businesses in Peru, Sri Lanka, and Senegal, shaping their futures with bravery. Gladys Yupanqui from Peru runs a minimart, Magatte Wade from Senegal starts a cosmetics factory, and Selyna Peiris from Sri Lanka takes over her mother’s textile business. Laws in nearly a third of the world’s countries prevent women from equal access to work – with devastating effects on poverty rates. This documentary captures how local entrepreneurship creates livelihoods and brings about lasting change.

A story so impactful that it will empower you.
