Inclusive and creative exhibition tour with an art educator | Sunday programme

On the occasion of the exhibitions:
Jetztzeit – Layers of the Present by Gulnur Mukazhanova
almost in between by Melanie Ender

    About the tour

In this inclusive public exhibition tour, we explore the exhibitions by Gulnur Mukazhanova and Melanie Ender through creative and associative methods. How do the two artists work with materials, and what do these materials communicate?

Mukazhanova works primarily with felt, a material deeply rooted in the nomadic craft traditions of Central Asia. She combines traditional techniques with visual strategies drawn from Western art movements, exploring how cultural heritage continues to exist and find new forms of expression in a globalised world. Ender frequently works with metal. Her practice investigates the relationship between stability and transformation: straight lines bend out of shape, while rigid metal rods appear fragile and open to change. She also collects and documents the traces created through working with metal and transfers them onto textiles as pigments.

Together, we discover the artists’ different approaches to material, record our impressions through creative mark-making, and reflect on them in conversation. Throughout the tour, the art educators provide deeper insights into the exhibitions and the artists’ practices, inviting participants to engage critically with the works.

    Art educators

Karen Michelsen Castañón is a visual artist, filmmaker and art educator. Her work explores the ways in which (colonial) histories are told and includes short films and textiles. She questions how both hegemonic and invisible stories are re-enacted in our everyday lives, and how this relates to current events. To what extent does critical historical knowledge stir our (artistic) actions in the present? She is also co-founder of mitkollektiv, an intersectional arts education collective, and of the art education project Reimagine Jetzt!

Hagar Ophir is a multidisciplinary artist trained as a historian, stage designer and dancer. Her practice explores the potential of art and education projects to create knowledge, with a particular focus on history as a space for rethinking and realising alternative possible presents. She leads workshops at various institutions in Berlin and is also co-founder of mitkollektiv, an intersectional art education collective, as well as the art education project Reimagine Jetzt!

Anna Meerwein studied graphic design and visual arts at the Berlin University of the Arts (UdK Berlin). As a costume designer, she has worked at theatres in Hamburg, Berlin and New York. She is active as an art educator at various museums in Berlin, where she develops artistic workshops and educational programmes, including initiatives focused on inclusion. In the context of the current exhibitions, she aims to provide a broad audience with access to the works on display through an artistic approach.

Marian Fuchs completed her studies in Fine Arts at the École supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Nîmes (Nîmes School of Fine Arts), France, earning the DNSEP, a postgraduate diploma, with distinction from the jury. She also obtained certification as a project manager in cultural education and as a multimedia designer. Today, she is an interdisciplinary artist, multimedia designer and freelance art educator. In the latter role, she aims to make the adventure of art accessible to the widest and most inclusive audience possible.
